Quarter-sawn oak is a product of nature and will include numerous color hues, grain patterns and other natural characteristics. "Quarter sawing" oak means milling the wood against the grain, which produces this wood's sumptuous "ray fleck" pattern. Raw oak pieces can have a color variation from light tan to pink, red and dark brown. Mineral stains are common oak characteristics that cannot entirely be eliminated when selecting wood for cabinetry.
